Description
Heuchera micrantha plants provide lovely white flowers from early spring through mid-summer. The flowers are great for cutting and add beauty to any arrangement. Also known as Coral Bells, these perennial plants are good for Zones 4 - 9 and prefer moist soil and a partial sun exposure in the hot summer areas. Start these flower seeds with a cold treatment to help break dormancy. Use 7 or 8 seeds per plant. Melting Fire plants have mounding foliage that is about 10 inches, but the flowers rise above the foliage on wispy stems and will reach 18 inches in height. Heuchera Melting Fire is an excellent border plant with neat, evergreen dark purple foliage and graceful nodding flowers. Transplant outdoors after frost danger has passed. Space the plants 12 inches apart. Grow in full sun to partial shade and in moist, well-drained soil. Heuchera is usually resistant to deer. Heuchera micrantha is a popular perennial that offers uniform, mounding foliage and neat stems of tiny blooms. The common name is Coral Bells, and this variety, Melting Fire, has semi-evergreen, scalloped leaves that are deep purple to red in color. The new leaves are bright red, giving the foliage mound a hot center that is melting! The stems grow above the foliage and have tiny, bell-shaped, white flowers. The blooms are so delicate and lovely and make nice cut flowers. In hot climates, Heuchera performs best with afternoon shade. They also prefer regular watering, and deadhead spent flowers to encourage continued blooming. The seed needs to have a cold treatment before planting. Using a damp paper towel, place the seed on the towel and place it in a plastic container with a sealable lid. Keep the seed container in the refrigerator for 4 weeks. Start the seed indoors 6 - 8 weeks before the last expected frost. Press the seeds into the soil but do not cover them. Keep them moist until germination. With temperatures of 65 - 70F, germination is normally within 28 days. Transplant outdoors after frost danger has passed. Space the plants 12 inches apart. Grow in full sun to partial shade and in moist, well-drained soil. Heuchera is usually resistant to deer.
