Beautiful flower. Osteospermum (African Daisy) is a bushy, evergreen, tender perennial with a profusion of soft blue daisy flowers. Blooms peak in late spring to early summer and again in late summer to early fall. Fast-growing. African daisies have a fairly quick growth rate, blooming about two months after sprouting from seeds. Mature size. Blue African daisy is a perennial flower grown in USDA Zones 10-11 reaching 1 to 3 ft. in height, with a similar width. Sow. About eight to 10 weeks before the last winter/spring frost, sow the seeds directly on the surface of a pot filled with ordinary potting mix. Very lightly cover the seeds. Keep the seeds moist until they germinate. Sun. Blue African daisy grows best in full sun or part shade and moist, well-drained soil. Osteospermum is a genus of flowering plants belonging to the Calenduleae, one of the smaller tribes of the sunflower/daisy family Asteraceae. They are known as the daisybushes or African daisies. Although commonly called African daisy, it's important to remember the botanical name of Osteospermum, as other garden plants such as Dimorphotheca and Arcotis go by the same common name. Other names include South African daisy, Cape daisy, Cape marigold, blue-eyed daisy, or sunscape daisy. These flowers are best planted in the spring after the threat of frost has passed, and they have a fairly quick growth rate, blooming about two months after sprouting from seeds. Reliably hardy in zones 10 to 11, these tender perennials are planted as annuals in other climate zones.
