Description

Oenothera pallida, or also known as Evening Primrose or Pale Evening Primrose, is a wonderfully fragrant perennial. It has a sweet almond scent that blooms all summer and into the fall. The blooms on this variety are white, and they fade to a creamy pink. Pale evening primrose, grows as an 8 - 16 inch tall perennial in USDA zones 3 - 9. Evening Primrose spreads by under ground runners. To keep it from spreading, many gardeners plant it in a container where it is confined. It is recommended to start Evening Primrose seed directly outdoors in the spring after danger of frost has passed. Sowing Rate: 1 ounce per 1400 square feet. Prepare a seedbed, press the seed into the soil and do not cover it. Keep the seed moist. With a temperature of 68F, germination is usually within 28 days. Grow Evening Primrose in full sun to partial shade and in well-drained soil. Space plants 9 - 12 inches apart. It will often bloom just two months after starting the seed.
