Description
USDA Hardiness Zones 6 - 10, Height 3 - 6 Feet, Spread 3 - 4 FeetFull SunSunshine Ligustrum is an evergreen shrub with year round golden foliage. Ligustrum sinense 'Sunshine' does great in warmer climates, and flourishes in full sun. It can handle hot summer days in the warmest climates. The plant is sterile & non-invasive. It also does not bloom at all, which is great for people who suffer from allergies. We love using this plant as a privacy hedge or garden border that has leaves year round. It is also very hardy and easy to care for, which is ideal for people with not a lot of free time or have brown thumbs. Sunshine Ligustrum Care This plant does best in full sun, which means at least 6 hours of sunlight a day. You need to plant in well-drained soil, as privet cannot tolerate soggy feet. The bush can adapt to most well drained soils. Water frequently to help the plant get established. After that the plant is quite drought and heat tolerant. We recommend adding mulch to the base of the shrub to help maintain moisture to the soil, and help protect shallow roots from harsh weather conditions. You can prune Sunshine Ligustrum almost any time of the year. Although pruning is not needed, as the shrub has a clean shape and does not grow past 6 feet tall. Do not prune close to the first frost of the year. Trim any dead or sick branches throughout the year as necessary. Fertilize in early spring using a slow release formula. But fertilizing is not typically needed, unless you have poor soil conditions. Sunshine Ligustrum SpacingPlant these shrubs at least 3 to 4 feet apart, center on center. If planting as a hedge, space these out 28 - 36 inches apart, center on center. These are also great in garden planters, to provide a great background for other colorful blooming plants. If planting as a landscaping border or in mass plantings, you can plant 4 to 6 feet apart, center on center.Sunshine Ligustrum Plant FactsUSDA Hardiness Zones: 6-10Flower Color(s): n/aBloom Period: Grown for FoliageFoliage Color(s): Bright YellowLight Exposure: Full SunHeight: 3-6 FeetSpread: 3-4 FeetHabit: Clumping, UprightWatering: MediumFeatures: Interest Year-RoundScientific Name: Ligustrum sinense 'Sunshine' PP20379Common Name: Sunshine LigustrumBrand: Southern Living Plants*Please note due to agriculture restrictions we are not allowed to ship these into the state of Tennessee. | Bushes > Privet Southern Living Plants 3953Q 749711280744
