FRAGRANT EVERGREEN: The white Gardenia jasminoides consists of thick, dark green evergreen foliage with fragrant, white double blooms. It is a lover of full sun to light shade conditions and requires organically rich soil that is well draining. Expect a fully mature plant to reach sizes of 4-6' H x 3-4' W. ATTRACTS POLLINATORS: With highly fragrant flowers the August Beauty Gardenia is delightful for pollinators including bees, birds and butterflies alike. It is a great choice to grow in containers or it can be used in gardens as beds and borders, hedges and/or privacy screens. MAINTENANCE: This is a full sun to light shade loving plant that is best grown in organically rich, well-drained soil. Pruning should be done when the plant is dormant as this will promote fresh compact growth. USDA ZONES: The August Beauty Gardenia remains hardy in zones 8-11. This shrub has an average watering need. You must water deeply until established in order to develop an extensive root system. Never water to the extent that soil may become soggy as this may lead to root rot therefore killing the plant. POTTED PLANTS: Ships as a 2.5 gallon potted plant with soil from the Alabama Gulfcoast. This plant it unavailable to ship to HI and AK. August Beauty Gardenias have a dense rounded evergreen growth habit and lustrous dark green leaves. These Gardenias will produce an abundance of large, fragrant white flowers spring through fall. The August Beauty is a lover of full sun and requires it in order to grow successfully. This is a moderate grower reaching sizes of 5 ft in height and 3 ft in width. It has a naturally rounded shape and blooms heavily from mid spring into the summer. In enclosed spaces this shrub still does very well. Use it in entryways or patios where its fragrance can he thoroughly enjoyed. Additionally, it is a plant that also does well as a specimen, foundation planting and with a long bloom season the flowers make for wonderful cut flower arrangements. They are not extremely needy plants, but they do have certain watering requirements that must be followed to ensure healthy growth. During the first growing season water deeply when planting and then 2-3 times per week. Be sure to avoid overwatering as this may lead to root rot eventually killing the plant.
