Doublefile Viburnum Shrubs (mariesii) is truly a breathtaking shrub when in bloom. Clothed in snowy white flowers in a pinwheel arrangement atop the branches in spring as if covered in snow, with attractive horizontal branching and good fall color, making it a fantastic specimen shrub. Viburnum mariesii has dark green foliage throughout the season. The serrated pointy leaves turn an outstanding brick red in the fall. The calm white flowers make for a beautiful contrast to the foliage. The Doublefile's average texture blends into the landscape, but can be balanced by one or two finer or coarser trees or shrubs for an effective composition. It is a good choice for attracting birds to your yard, but is not particularly attractive to deer who tend to leave it alone in favor of tastier treats. It has no significant negative characteristics. This is a relatively low-maintenance shrub, and should only be pruned after flowering to avoid removing any of the current season's flowers. Works great with taller trees and shrubs. Wide-growing shrub. Blooms in late spring. Great for fire-scaping.
