Dwarf Thuja Shrub If you're looking for a green plant to accent a rock garden, as a border or even to form a hedge, the Hetz Midget Arborvitae is the perfect solution. An evergreen plant, it retains its foliage?-flat sprays that are soft and leafy to the touch?-year round. Its versatility renders it useful in so many applications. Beautiful and Hardy This arborvitae is both beautiful and hardy. It produces inconspicuous green cones that remain well hidden among the bluish-green foliage. It is also resistant to mites, bagworms, and cankers, meaning you'll have little worry when it comes to diseases and insects. While it isn't deer resistant, you can keep the snacking deer away by using a deer repellent. You can reasonably expect the Hetz Midget Arborvitae to last upwards of 30 years with exceptional care. Soft Prune Only While it is a hardy plant, it requires moderate watering, especially in the early stages when it is still developing its root system. It retains its dome shape naturally, meaning you'll never have to prune it unless you want to. If you do decide to prune the Hetz Midget Arborvitae, do a soft prune, only trimming off newer growths, otherwise, you run the risk of damaging the plant. Adaptability While many plants only thrive in certain conditions, the Hetz Midget Arborvitae is exceptionally adaptable. Use it as a container plant on a patio or balcony or even plant it in a rock garden and watch it thrive. In the winter, you'll appreciate a touch of greenery among snow beds, especially when other plants seem to hibernate or perish in the cold. While it prefers sandy soil to really flourish, it will survive in nearly any soil type, especially when fertilized properly. Planting & Care 1. Planting: These shrubs are full to partial sun lovers that require around 3 to 6 hours of sunlight daily. They also prefer moist soil, though they can tolerate dry conditions and different soil types. When you're ready to plant, dig a hole that is twice as big around as your shipped container and just as deep. Remove your shrub from the container and gently comb the roots to loosen the roots. Place the shrub in the hole, ensuring that the root ball is level. Backfill the hole and cover the area with mulch to help protect the roots. 2. Watering: Water when the soil is dry about 2 inches down - the timing will vary depending on climate and conditions. 3. Fertilizing: Hetz Midget Thujas do not need regular fertilization. You can fertilize the first spring to give them a boost - an evergreen-specific fertilizer is ideal. 4. Pruning: You can prune to maintain size and shape, but regular pruning is not required. | 3 Gallon - Hetz Midget Arborvitae Shrub/Bush - Dwarf Thuja Shrub/Bush, Outdoor Plant See how our 30 Day Happy & Healthy Gaurantee compares to Garden Goods Direct, Lowe's.
