Red Firespike (Odontonema cuspidatum) is fast, upright growing, tropical to semi tropical plant that grows into a large bush like that pushes up new shoots from the root system. The fire-spike has very unique flowers that on the top of the spikes that butterflies and hummingbirds seem to flock to. Produces red tubular flowers from spring to early fall. Great addition to the summer garden. The fire spike can get leggy and may need a trim from time to time. Firespikes really good once established with low maintenance. We fertilize when needed a least a couple of times a year. Can grow up to about 6 feet high or higher in a season. Looks great in shady corners and even does well in modest light. Protect from freezing. In the north please bring in for the winter. Makes a unique addition to cut flowers for that splash of red. They love full sun, however does tolerate partial shade, they do really good once established with low maintenance, we fertilize when needed a least a couple of times a year. Likes well drained or sandy soil. Also does well as a container plant. Does well in zones 9 to 11. Grows to about 9 feet high ours grows much higher than that,we have had them grow about 15 feet high here in Florida, with proper care it is a good bloomer a couple of times a year. You will receive a plant similar to one in picture in a non woven bag ready to plant. When you receive the plant, take and put in a bucket of plain water at least 1 to 2 inches and let sit overnight, then transplant the plant to top of the bag in the bag that it came in. We do not except returns on plants. Placement of the order constitutes acceptance of these terms.
