Partial Sun to Full Sun USDA Hardiness Zones 3 - 7 Height 10 - 15 Feet Spread 3 - 5 Feet The North Pole Arborvitae, Thuja occidentalis 'Art Boe', is a fantastic upright columnar evergreen shrub. These are some of the best selling Proven Winners ColorChoice shrubs available, known for their upright growth habit and ease of care. These arborvitaes are similar to other arborvitae with how hardy, disease resistant, and easy to care for. However, the North Pole is great due to the upright growth habit, which makes it great for a privacy screen in narrow spaces. This is a great way to add a hedge but not take up a lot of space in your yard or garden. The bushes are dark green and look beautiful all year round, even in the winter. The bushes resist winter burn or damage even in the coldest climates up north in Minnesota, Wisconsin, North Dakota, Montana & Maine (hardy up to zone 3). North Pole Arborvitae Care Plant these in well drained soil and in a location that receives at least 6 hours of sunlight per day. Not much care is needed once established. Pruning North Pole Arborvitae is not necessary. However, if necessary you can trim to the shape desired in the summer. Be careful not to cut too much of the branches off. Fertilize North Pole Arborvitae in the spring with generic slow release fertilizer designed for trees and woody material. North Pole Arborvitae Spacing To form a hedge, plant these around 5 feet apart. It may take a year or two to develop fully, but that much room is needed for optimal health of the shrubs. Otherwise, you can plant around 7 feet apart to allow sunlight to hit the entire plant when once it matures.
