Partial Shade to Full Sun (Can Grow In Most Sunlight Conditions)Mature Height 22 - 24 InchesMature Spread 16 - 20 InchesGrowing Zones 4 - 9The Kirigami™ line of spring and early summer blooming Columbine has sturdy compact stems covered in perky, bright flowers that raise their heads to be seen. Red and White Kirigami™ Columbine does not require a long period of cold during the winter like older varieties, making them well suited for gardens in the warmer USDA zones. Aquilegia caerulea Red and white Kirigami™ blooms earlier in the spring and can keep going well into early summer with occasional deadheading and little maintenance. This columbine is disease and pest resistant, so the dark green foliage stays clear and clean all season. Columbine is wonderful to naturalize in wildflower meadows and pollinator gardens. The mounded shape and masses of flowers look great at the front of a garden border or combined with other seasonal plants for a cheerful spring planter. The cut flowers are long lasting and add informal charm to arrangements. Kirigami™ Red and White Columbine CarePlant Columbine in a location with well-draining soil and full sun to part shade exposure. This plant prefers a fertile, loamy soil with a near neutral pH. Supplemental watering is required for the first season or two until the plants are well established.Regular fertilizing early in the growing season will guarantee profuse blooming and healthy growth. Choose a slow-release, granular fertilizer that has a balanced NPK ratio. Mulching plants annually also provides nutrients and improves moisture retention over time. Use an organic material like compost, shredded leaves, or fine arborist chips so that the material can break down and feed the soil. Columbines will be encouraged to form more flower buds with regular deadheading of spent flowers. Columbine is an early blooming plant that dies back in the summer before many other perennials. When the foliage starts to yellow and brown, plants can be cut back hard to maintain a tidy appearance. Protect potted plants from harsh temperatures and sunlight, and provide regular water during the growing season to keep the soil moist. Kirigami™ Red and White Columbine SpacingRed and White Kirigami™ Columbine stays compact and eventually reaches 22-24 inches high and 16-20 inches wide. Space plants 16 inches on the center when planting in a garden border. Choose a pot with at least an 8-inch diameter opening when growing the plants singly.Kirigami™ Red & White Columbine InformationUSDA Hardiness Zones: 4 - 9Plant Type: PerennialsLight Exposure: Partial Shade to Full Sun (Can Grow In Most Sunlight Conditions)Mature Height: 22 - 24 InchesMature Spread: 16 - 20 InchesSpacing: 16 - 20 InchesHabit: UprightFlower Color(s): Red, WhiteFlower Description: Red and White ShadesBloom Period: SpringFoliage Type: Evergreen, HerbaceousFoliage Color(s): GreenFoliage Description: Green ShadesSeasonal Interest: Spring FloweringWatering: AverageResists: N/ATolerates: N/AAttracts: Butterflies, HummingbirdsContainer Role: Uses: Borders, Mass PlantingFeatures: Attracts Pollinators, Low MaintenanceBrand: Proven WinnersCommon Name: | All Plants > New Plants For 2024 > New Perennials For 2024 Proven Winners AQUKRQT
