Rehmannia angulata is commonly called Chinese Foxglove. It is considered to be a perennial and is somewhat slow to establish the first year when planted from seed. But it is certainly worth the wait! Grow Rehmannia in full sun to partial shade and in well-drained soil. It had beautiful rose-purple flowers with spotted throats that are trumpet-shaped, and it can spread by underground runners. It makes a great, colorful addition to any flower bed or border, and it looks wonderful in an old-fashioned cottage garden. With winter protection it is known to withstand winters in zones 5 and 6. Start the seed indoors 4 6 weeks before the last expected frost. Press the seed into the soil, do not cover it and keep it moist. With a temperature of 73F, germination is usually within 21 days. Transplant outdoors with a spacing of 18 24 inches between plants.
