Partial Sun to Full Sun (At Least 5 Hours of Direct Sunlight)Mature Height 8 - 12 InchesMature Spread 10 - 14 InchesGrowing Zones 4 - 8Use As A Thriller In ContainersOften a firm favorite with gardeners, lupines are one of the joys of the summer. As a compact cultivar with full-sized flowers, the Pink Shades Lupine is ideal for a smaller border or container. Its erect spikes of pea-like, pink blooms are a delight as they tower above its green foliage and provide great visual impact. With a little care, this lupine may even rebloom later in the season.Often ignored by deer, lupines are widely grown in rural and cottage gardens. With its small form, Pink Shades Lupine is perfect for growing in groups or at the front of an herbaceous border. It is hardy in zones 4 through 8 and being perennial will die back in the winter only to reappear the following spring. This variety is excellent for growing as a cut flower. Pink Shades Lupine CareThe Pink Shades Lupine flourishes when grown in either full sun or some slight shade. It can handle most soil types, but if given the choice would prefer a slightly acidic soil that is well drained, but kept moist. Regular watering is required to help this plant establish and to keep the soil on the moist side. Unless the soil is extremely poor, no fertilization is necessary and may even encourage more leafy growth at the expense of flowering. As the flowers fade, the spikes can be deadheaded to make way for new blooms. After the first frost of winter, the foliage can be cut to the base, making way for new growth to emerge in spring. If growing Pink Shades Lupine in a container, frequent watering may be required to prevent the soil from drying out. Pink Shades Lupine SpacingThe compact Pink Shades Lupine grows to 8-12 inches high with a spread of 10-14 inches. When grown as a mass planting, this lupine can be spaced around 8-10 inches apart.
