Partial Shade to Full Sun (At Least 3 Hours Of Direct Sunlight)Mature Height 4 - 5 FeetMature Spread 6 - 8 FeetGrowing Zones 5 - 8Use As A Filler In ContainersRed flowers have ruffled petals and bloom in clusters around mid-May, making Holden's Red Rhododendron a showpiece in a landscape. The colorful flower buds provide color and visual interest during the winter. When the bold red flowers open, the lighter-colored center gives the blooms dimension. Dark green leathery foliage comes to a rounded point, and as a broadleaf evergreen, the leaves stay in place throughout the winter. Holden's Red Rhododendron has a woody, well-branched growth habit and makes a wonderful hedge or foundation planting. Add height to the back of a mixed bed or create a springtime focal point. Pollinators are drawn to the spring flowers. This cultivar is disease resistant and grows in zones 5 through 8.Holden's Red Rhododendron CareHolden's Red Rhododendron grows best in full shade. Keep the soil moist but never soggy. Plant this shrub in rich soil that promotes drainage and has an acidic pH. Apply a thick layer of organic mulch around the base of the shrub to provide nutrients and keep the soil moist. Fertilize the plant every four to six weeks using a product intended for rhododendrons. Remove dead or damaged growth at any time. Shape the plant as needed after the flowers fade. Rhododendrons set flower buds early, so be careful not to prune late in the summer or fall because it may interfere with next year's flowers.Holden's Red Rhododendron SpacingHolden's Red Rhododendron stands 5 to 8 feet tall and 6 to 8 feet wide. Space shrubs 6 feet apart when creating a continuous hedge.Holden's Red Rhododendron InformationUSDA Hardiness Zones: 5 - 8Plant Type: Light Exposure: Partial Shade to Full Sun (At Least 3 Hours Of Direct Sunlight)Mature Height: 4 - 5 FeetMature Spread: 6 - 8 FeetSpacing: 6 - 8 FeetHabit: Clumping, Mounded, SpreadingFlower Color(s): Pink, RedFlower Description: Pink to Bright Red BloomsBloom Period: SpringFoliage Type: EvergreenFoliage Color(s): GreenFoliage Description: Green ShadesSeasonal Interest: Spring FloweringWatering: AverageResists: N/ATolerates: N/AAttracts: N/AContainer Role: FillerUses: Borders, EdgingFeatures: Attracts Pollinators, Foliage InterestBrand: Common Name: Holden's Red RhododendronOther Name(s): Lali Guras, Rose TreeScientific Name: Rhododendron Holden's Red | All Plants > New Plants For 2024 > New Shrubs For 2024 Plant Addicts 1015004-pc
