Slender woody stems twine gracefully in tight coils around trellis or fencing to about 10 feet or so. Makes a good screen. In the summer blooms peek out from the drooping vines that resemble the Sherlock Holmes Dutch Pipe. These blooms are colored with a purple pattern resembling calico fabric giving it the common name of calico flower. Likes light sandy soils.
