The Mushroom Japanese Cedar is a broad, mounding evergreen with a soft, airy look and feel. It forms a mound about 2 feet tall and 3 feet wide in 10 years, adding 2 or 3 inches a year throughout its life. In spring the foliage is bright green, turning darker green in summer, but its main attraction is the vibrant purple-brown foliage that develops in winter, when the temperatures fall. It turns back to green again in the spring. Plant it as a specimen in a smaller garden, in an Asian-themed area, and alone or in groups in garden beds.
