Code Orange by Caroline B. Cooney is a great book that follows the story of Mitchell Blake, a below average high school student, who discovers the last remains of smallpox scabs. After being kidnapped by terrorists, Mitchell devises a plan to capture them and save his family from the smallpox virus. The book is full of suspense and humor, and is a great read for kids.
