Description

Cerastium tomentosum is an evergreen perennial ground cover that is commonly known as Snow in Summer. It is low-growing, creeping and forms a very dense mat-like cover. It does not tolerate foot traffic, but it works well on sunny slopes that are too steep to mow or along stone walls. Snow in summer is a low growing 6 - 10 inch tall perennial , spreading ground cover growing in USDA zones 3 - 10. The foliage is gray-green, and it is loaded with little white blooms. Snow in Summer is fairly tolerant to drought. The plants benefit from a trimming after the blooms are spent to tidy their appearance. Sowing Rate: Approximately 5000 seeds cover 100 square feet. Sow Snow in Summer seed indoors 6 - 8 weeks before the last expected frost. Press the seed into the soil but do not cover it. Keep seed moist until germination. With a temperature of 68F, germination is usually within 21 days. Space the plants 8 inches apart. Grow this perennial in full sun and in well-draining soil. Snow in Summer is usually resistant to deer. Cerastium tomentosum is an evergreen perennial ground cover that is commonly known as Snow in Summer.
