USDA Hardiness Zones 3 - 7 Height 12 - 24 Inches Spread 12 - 24 Inches The Tater Tot Arborvitae is a great addition to any garden. The small rounded shape is care free, and will fit into just about any space. This Proven Winners ColorChoice shrub can even tolerate shaded areas, which is uncommon for most arborvitae or evergreen shrubs in general. Plant these as an accessory next to other larger plants. Or consider using these in mass plantings for a formal landscape or as a garden border. Another option would be to plant these in garden planters, for year round interest. The Tater Tot arborvitae is native to North America and can tolerate harsh winters. This is an evergreen shrub, so it keeps its beautiful green foliage and globe shape year round. Thuja occidentalis 'SMNTOBAB' was formerly named Tiny Tot Arborvitae, and will be first available to the public in spring of 2019. So be sure to get your order in now, to ensure you reserve these space saving and care free plants before it sells out! Tater Tot Arborvitae Care These shrubs like moist soil that is well-drained. If the soil doesnt drain fast enough, it could cause the shrub to get root rot. These bushes do best with a layer of mulch around the base to help retain moisture and protect the roots from extreme weather conditions. Pruning Tater Tot Arborvitae is not necessary. This dwarf plant is very small and should never require pruning. If you must trim, do so during the spring as new growth emerges. Be sure not to cut any large branches though because it could be harmful to the health of the plant and ruin the well rounded shape of the plant. Tater Tot Arborvitae Spacing If you choose to plant these shrubs into an evergreen garden border or hedge, space these 12 inches apart, center on center. For garden planters, use a planter that is at least 12 inches wide. We recommend planting these at least 2 feet away from the house, so allow enough space to grow and to ensure enough moisture and sunlight will hit the plant and not be covered by the overhand of the roof.
