Description
Tea Cup Elephant Ear grows 5 ft. to 6 ft. tall on sleek, dark stems. It's perfect for adding height interest to your garden or landscape. The foliage is the most stunning part of this plant. Shiny green leaves show in stylish contrast against dark, near-black veining the coloration becomes even more stunning when the sunlight hits. The leaves grow upright and form a distinctive cup-shape. When it rains, the leaves makes an extraordinary display. The leaves and stems are strong enough that the cup actually fills with water. Once it gets heavy enough, the stem arches over, pours the water out and then springs back to collect more rainfall like a natural water feature. This elephant ear loves the water, and you can even grow it in a pot submerged in a pond. A carefree and fast-growing plant, it's useful in shade gardens and borders. It also makes an exquisite display in a patio pot. Deer tend not to bother this variety.
