Description
Dark pink fringe-like flowers multiple times a year. Flowers are similar to Witch Hazel. Some winter flowering during warmer spells. 6-8 feet in height and width. Maybe taller without pruning. 'Plum Delight' has tight growth habit, with an arching appearance. Can be kept as a hedge with frequent pruning. Reddish-purple foliage year around. Unlike some of the other purple leafed varieties it retains it coloration on old and new growth. Like all Loropetalum it will lose some leaves in the winter. New growth is almost as vivid as the flower color. Hardiness Zones 7-9. Probably adaptable to zone 6b, if positioned out of the north wind. Full-Sun to Part-Shade. Will grow in the shade with looser habit and less flowers. This evergreen shrub works great as a large hedge. 'Plum Delight' is also called 'Hines Purpleleaf' and 'Pizzazz'. This is one of the best purple leafed varieties because of its foliage and flowers. Rapid growth can be expected. Plant can be damaged with late summer pruning, if new growth does not harden off. Trays of fully rooted 2" Loropetalum Chinese Fringe 'Plum Delight' plants. This evergreen shrub works great as a large hedge. 'Plum Delight' is also called 'Hines Purpleleaf' and 'Pizzazz'.
