The plant is not as prickly as other varieties and its eventual small stature of 3 ft. tall and wide is perfect for use as a specimen plant to accent a tropical garden, in mass plantings such as those that surround the trunk of a palm tree, in patio pots set around the pool, to line a walkway or simply near a mailbox. Easy to grow in a wide range of soils, easily adapts to full Sun or full shade, is drought tolerant once established and is cold hardy down to an occasional 30-deg F. Hardy in USDA plant zones 8-11, it is not recommended to grow this plant outdoors in cooler climates. To accommodate mature size or when planting in groups, space 3 ft. away from other plants or structures.
