As plant matures, extremely large bird-like flowers emerge, with white heads and blue tongues. Place away from housing structures to accommodate mature size. A frost-tender evergreen. A stunning plant for a full-sun display in a bed large enough to accommodate its eventual size. This would make a fine specimen planting or in a bed with lower-growing companions. Thrives in rich loamy soils, but highly adaptable to many soil types. Provide shelter from harsh winds. Water deeply, regularly in first few growing seasons to establish root system; once established, tolerates moderate drought but looks best with regular water. Remove ragged leaves from clump periodically. It can be used to accent tall pillars near a home's entrance, add a tropical note as a backdrop in a mixed bed, or as a striking container plant on the patio or pool deck.
