Partial Sun to Full Sun (At Least 5 Hours of Direct Sunlight)Mature Height 3 - 4 FeetMature Spread 3 - 4 FeetGrowing Zones 3 - 8Hummingbirds, butterflies, and home gardeners alike find it hard to resist the spectacular flowers of the Jacob Cline bee balm. Each July the deep scarlet, frilly flowers begin to appear above the aromatic leaves and the blooms continue to put on a show until fall. The dark green foliage has a pleasant scent of mint and basil. This cultivar of Monarda is more resistant to powdery mildew than other bee balms. This plant offers deer and rabbit resistance and is a tough, fast, and aggressive grower. It quickly and reliably fills in space in the garden. Pair the Jacob Cline with yarrow or russian sage to create a spectacular display. The unique, tubular flowers add a touch of whimsy to the garden. Use them at the back of a garden as a vertical accent.Jacob Cline Bee Balm CareThis bee balm prefers a site with full to partial shade. The ideal soil is moderately fertile, well-drained and rich in organic matter. Use an organic mulch around the plant and plan to water it regularly during dry weather so the soil stays consistently moist. Provide the Jacob Cline with plenty of space. This will ensure it has plenty of room to grow and have good airflow around the plant, a key to avoiding problems with leaf diseases.Snipping off dead flowers or finished flower stalks encourages repeat blooming. Once the plant dies back in fall, cut it off just above the soil surface. Jacob Cline Bee Balm SpacingThe Jacob Cline bee balm has a spread and height of three to four feet. It is a fast grower and vigorous spreader, so provide each plant with at least three to four feet to grow or more if you plan to let it spread to its full potential.Jacob Cline Bee Balm InformationUSDA Hardiness Zones: 3 - 8Plant Type: PerennialsLight Exposure: Partial Sun to Full Sun (At Least 5 Hours of Direct Sunlight)Mature Height: 3 - 4 FeetMature Spread: 3 - 4 FeetSpacing: 3 - 4 FeetHabit: UprightFlower Color(s): RedFlower Description: Bloom Period: July into SeptemberFoliage Type: HerbaceousFoliage Color(s): GreenFoliage Description: Seasonal Interest: Summer Flowering, Fall FloweringWatering: AverageResists: Deer, DiseaseTolerates: DroughtAttracts: Bees, Butterflies, HummingbirdsContainer Role: Uses: Borders, Containers, Mass Planting, Wildlife GardensFeatures: Attracts Pollinators, Cut Flowers, Fragrant, Low Maintenance, Native to North AmericaBrand: American Beauties Native PlantsCommon Name: Jacob Cline Bee BalmOther Name(s): Scientific Name: MONARDA DIDYMA `JACOB CLINE` | Perennials > Bee Balm American Beauties Native Plants 1003337-pc
