Jewel Black Raspberry Plant Care This self-pollinating, sturdy variety is grown in USDA Hardiness zones 4-8. Raspberry plants grow and establish quickly, and require 1-2 years to bear fruit. Jewel Black Raspberries prefer a soil pH level between 6.0 - 6.8.Plant this raspberry in full sun for best fruit production, in well-draining loam soil. Avoid planting Jewel Black Raspberry in clay soils, and amend poor, compact soils with compost if necessary.
