Partial Sun to Full Sun (5+ Hours of Direct Sunlight)Mature Height 4 - 6 FeetMature Width 3 - 4 FeetGrowing Zones 4 - 8Jewel Black Raspberry lives up to its name! The large glossy black fruit has a superb sweet flavor, perfect for making pies and preserves, in homemade ice cream, or for fresh eating; you wont be able to resist these flavorful berries. Bred for exceptional disease resistance and high fruit production, expect loads of sweet juicy fruit to ripen in early summer. Jewel Black Raspberry Plant Care This self-pollinating, sturdy variety is grown in USDA Hardiness zones 4-8. Raspberry plants grow and establish quickly, and require 1-2 years to bear fruit. Jewel Black Raspberries prefer a soil pH level between 6.0 - 6.8.Plant this raspberry in full sun for best fruit production, in well-draining loam soil. Avoid planting Jewel Black Raspberry in clay soils, and amend poor, compact soils with compost if necessary. Allow plenty of space between plants for proper growth, and provide support for the canes for easy harvesting. Growing Jewel Black Raspberry Plant Jewel Black Raspberries will thrive when planted in a sunny spot with well-draining soil. When Jewel Black Raspberry is mature, it reaches heights of 4-5 ft tall and 3-4 feet wide. This plant needs adequate spacing for sunlight, airflow, and harvesting, so space plants at least 4 ft apart to ensure room for growth. Plants can get weighted down with a heavy crop, so you will need to create a simple trellis or fence to keep canes and fruit off the ground and to support the plant for easy harvesting. Watering Jewel Black Raspberry Plant Water Jewel Black Raspberry regularly and deeply from spring throughout the fall harvest. Raspberries need at least 1 - 1 1/2 inches of water (natural or rainfall) per 7-10 day period from flowering until harvest. Prevent roots from becoming waterlogged by checking a few inches down into the soil to determine moisture levels before watering. Feeding Jewel Black Raspberry Plant Top dress this plant with 2 inches of organic compost or well-rotted manure around each plant in spring to conserve moisture and feed the soil. Raspberry plants can be fed with an organic, water-soluble, liquid fertilizer specifically formulated for berry production, following the application instructions on the label.Jewel Black Raspberry Bush InformationUSDA Hardiness Zones: 4 - 8Plant Type: Edible PlantsLight Exposure: Partial Sun to Full Sun (At Least 5 Hours of Direct Sunlight)Mature Height: 4 - 6 FeetMature Spread: 3 - 4 FeetMature Spacing: 4 - 6 FeetHabit: UprightFlower Color(s): PurpleFlower Description: Bloom Period: Foliage Type: DeciduousFoliage Color(s): GreenFoliage Description: Seasonal Interest: Spring Flowering, Summer FloweringWatering: AverageResists: N/ATolerates: N/AAttracts: Birds, ButterfliesContainer Role: Uses: Wildlife GardensFeatures: Attracts Pollinators, Low MaintenanceBrand: Common Name: Jewel Black Raspberry BushOther Name(s): Jewel Black Raspberry | Edible Plants > Fruit Producing Plants > Raspberry Bushes Plant Addicts 1000768-pc
