A large area of severe thunderstorms is forecast into Tuesday night and will overlap areas in the Ohio, Tennessee and middle Mississippi valleys that were hit by deadly and damaging storms, forecasters say.

In Kentucky alone, 14 people were killed by severe weather, with at least 23 deaths reported so far across the midwest and south of the country.

A wave of severe weather has resulted in tragedy as multiple tornadoes swept across the central and eastern United States, claiming at least 28 lives, injuring dozens more, and leaving as many as a half-million without power.
