The Justice Department is preparing criminal charges in connection with an Iranian hack that targeted Donald Trump's presidential campaign in a bid to shape the outcome of the November election, two people familiar with the matter said Thursday.

The Iranian operatives, according to prosecutors, obtained debate prep material, in addition to opposition research packets on Donald Trump’s potential vice presidential picks.

Three men have been charged with theft- and terrorism-related crimes for allegedly hacking the Trump campaign in order to hurt his election prospects.
