Arizona is holding Democratic and Republican primaries on Tuesday to determine the two candidates who will compete to fill the late U.S. Rep. Raúl Grijalva’s congressional seat. In March, the Democratic congressman died from complications from his cancer treatment.

For more than two decades, much of Southern Arizona was represented by Rep. Raúl M. Grijalva, a liberal stalwart who championed environmental causes, supported immigrant rights and advocated on behalf of indigenous communities.
