The Fort Worth Independent School District’s leadership is under fire after being criticized for not keeping up with the city’s growth.

Fort Worth ISD released estimated A-F ratings Sept. 10, though grades remain preliminary due to legal issues blocking the Texas Education Agency from releasing official ratings.

The Texas Education Agency is barred from releasing statewide A-F scores under a court order issued last month. Fort Worth ISD, like several other districts in the state, calculated its own anticipated accountability scores based on the state education agency’s scoring rubric.

Dr. Angelica Ramsey has been the Fort Worth ISD superintendent for two years. There will be a chance for the public to address the board Tuesday night, but most of the meeting will take place behind closed doors.

One of the school board’s primary responsibilities is to hire and evaluate — or fire — their school district’s superintendent, the sole district employee who reports directly to trustees. The catalyst for Parker’s comments was, as she described it, the unacceptable state of Fort Worth ISD’s academic results.

The Tuesday meeting comes three weeks after Fort Worth Mayor Mattie Parker and other local leaders sent a letter to school board members urging a turnaround in academic performance.

The Fort Worth ISD school board will meet Tuesday night to discuss the employment, evaluation, discipline, or dismissal of Superintendent Dr. Angelica Ramsey. The lone agenda item is Ramsey’s future with the district.
