Fiat owner Stellantis said on Monday it would build a hybrid version of its 500e small electric car at its Mirafiori plant in Turin, Italy, amid a slowdown in electric car sales.

The hybrid 500e will be based on the same platform as the 500e EV, while Fiat is phasing out the old version of the 500, both petrol-powered and hybrid, which was assembled in Poland.

The Fiat CEO said the brand has plans to introduce an upgraded and more affordable version of the 500 EV in 2027.

Chrysler parent Stellantis NV (STLA) said on Monday that it is planning to start production of the hybrid version of its Fiat 500 city car at its Mirafiori plant in Turin in November this year.
