Department of Housing and Urban Development Secretary Scott Turner and Department of the Interior Secretary Doug Burgum announced on Monday plans to identify federal lands where affordable housing could be built.

The Trump administration is creating a task force to address the affordable housing shortage by freeing up federal land. Interior Secretary Doug Burgum and Housing and Urban Development Secretary Scott Turner announced their collaboration in a Wall Street Journal op-ed.

One proposal would create a streamlined process for selling off federal land to state and local governments, but only if they allow housing to be built on it.
