Multiple people were taken into custody by the New York Police Department at Columbia University after a pro-Palestinian protest in an area of the main library on campus Wednesday.

Two Harvard graduate students, accused of assaulting a Jewish student during a pro-Palestinian demonstration at the university’s business school nearly two years ago, have been ordered to complete a pretrial diversion program, a judge ruled Monday.

Police arrested dozens of Columbia University students who seized part of the school’s main library on Wednesday in one of the biggest pro-Palestinian demonstrations on campus since last year’s wave of protests against Israel’s war in Gaza.

The students were placed on interim suspension and will be prohibited from taking their final exams or entering campus except to access their dormitories, the university official said. Columbia also barred 33 other people from campus,
