NASA will train an Indian astronaut for a voyage to the International Space Station as early as next year, NASA Administrator Bill Nelson said on Wednesday, amid deepening space ties between India and the United States.

Four Indian astronauts would be trained for an India-US joint space mission and one of them would travel to the International Space Station next year, Isro chairman S Somanath said on Wednesday, adding: "All four will get overseas training and two shortlisted astronauts will undergo training at Nasa.

Almost 40 years after the first Indian citizen pioneered space travel, Nasa said another Indian will be sent to International Space Station by the end of 2024. National Aeronautics and Space Administration (Nasa) administrator Bill Nelson said US will help train and send an Indian astronaut to the ISS.
