The October 2024 outbreak of E. coli in a US McDonald's facility was due to bad sanitary and hygiene conditions followed at a supplier’s facility, where workers did not wash hands or use sanitisers and all the equipment was left dirty.

More than a hundred E. coli cases were linked to contaminated onions produced by Taylor Farms used in McDonald's burgers.

Taylor Farms recalled thousands of onion cases and McDonald’s switched suppliers for affected locations. While the FDA noted no public health threats from its inspection findings, lawsuits from impacted customers continue.
