The U.N. and aid groups have rejected Israel’s aid distribution moves, including a plan from a group of American security contractors, ex-military officers and humanitarian aid officials calling itself the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation.

Video showed the aftermath of attacks with men found dead, including one still seated in a chair inside a Thai restaurant used by locals as a gathering spot, and several children lying motionless.

Since Israel ended a ceasefire with Hamas in mid-March it has unleashed fierce strikes on Gaza that have killed hundreds and captured swathes of territory. Before the truce ended, Israel halted all humanitarian aid into the territory, including food, fuel and water.

Israeli airstrikes on a school housing conflict-displaced families and close to a crowded market and restaurant in Gaza City have killed at least 38 people, local health authorities have said.

The strikes included one attack on a school sheltering hundreds of displaced Palestinians, which killed 27 people, officials said.
