The Saints shouldn’t rule out an early-round quarterback because of Derek Carr. His injuries, age, and performance make it a priority:

New Orleans Saints quarterback Derek Carr is in the concussion protocol after sustaining his second concussion in three weeks, according to Saints coach Dennis Allen. Carr left Sunday's game against the Detroit Lions and the Saints' Week 10 game against the Minnesota Vikings to go into the concussion protocol but sustained other injuries in both of those games as well.

Dennis Allen shared an injury update on Saints quarterback Derek Carr, saying Jameis Winston will start in Week 14 if Carr can’t play:

"He's being evaluated," Coach Dennis Allen said Monday. "He's in the concussion protocol but he's also being evaluated for a rib injury. We don't have all of the results back on that, but the shoulder seemed like it came out fine. We'll evaluate him as we go throughout the week, see what his availability will be."

Question: If Derek Carr can’t go against the Panthers, why won’t the Saints deploy a full offense catered around Taysom Hill? The Superdome crowd would certainly like to see more Hill — as evidenced by their loud cheers whenever the quarterback-turned-tight end came on to replace Carr in last weekend’s loss to the Detroit Lions.

The Saints also placed safety Marcus Maye and defensive tackle Malcolm Roach on injured reserve. Carr left Sunday’s 33-28 loss to Detroit with concussion symptoms, as well as sh
