Catholic bishops are suing the Trump administration over its abrupt halt to funding of refugee resettlement, calling the action unlawful and harmful to newly arrived refugees and to the nation’s largest private resettlement program.

The bishops' conference is appealing a recent court decision saying federal courts lack the authority to order the government to honor its recently terminated contracts with the bishops for refugee resettlement.

Catholic Bishops have found themselves ethically and legally opposed to the Trump administration’s immigration policy. With intense and massive deportation efforts, U.S. Bishops have sued the Trump administration for the unlawful treatment and actions against immigrants.

A federal judge refused Tuesday to order the Trump administration to restart money flowing to Catholic organizations that help settle refugees in the U.S.
