The NFL changed its investment rules in August, allowing private equity to own as much as 10 percent of a team. Arctos purchased a 10 percent stake in the Bills in December, and Dolphins owner Stephen Ross sold a 10 percent stake of the Dolphins, Hard Rock Stadium, the Miami Grand Prix and the Miami Open tennis tournament to Ares Management.

Dallas-based Arctos was founded in 2019 and is led by managing partners Ian Charles and David O’Connor. It is one of the best-known sports-focused funds, and the first to win approval to invest in all five major North American leagues.

There may be some new faces in the owners’ suites at SoFi Stadium this fall. The Los Angeles Chargers are looking to sell an 8% stake in the team to Arctos, a private investment firm, the Los Angeles Times reports.

Yet two more NFL teams are on the brink of selling a minority ownership stake to a private equity firm. According to Daniel Popper of The Athletic, the Chargers have requested approval to sell an eight percent stake in their franchise to private investment firm Arctos.
