London Marathon organisers said they have received 840,318 applications for the 2025 race, breaking the world record of 578,374 set in last year's public ballot.

The London Marathon made history on Sunday [28 April] with an unprecedented surge in applications for a ballot place in the 2025 edition. A whopping 840,318 hopefuls entered the ballot for a chance to participate in next year's race, surpassing the London Marathon's previous record, set in 2024, of 578,304. That’s 261,696 more runners!

Reigning Olympic champion Peres Jepchirchir crushed the women's-only world record in winning the 44th London Marathon on Sunday, while Kenyan compatriot Alexander Mutiso Munyao pulled away from Ethiopian distance great Kenenisa Bekele to win the men's race.
