Partial Sun to Full Sun (At Least 5 Hours of Direct Sunlight)Height 12 - 16 InchesWidth 16 - 18 InchesGrowing Zones 3-9Fern-leafed Bleeding Heart perennials have been a mainstay in shade gardens all over the United States. Break out of the shady habit with this new improved hybrid that will take full sun to part shade and still bring you the famous nodding head heart shaped flowers in warm to hot colors. Growing in what can be described as alpine conditions, which is open sunshine with some light shade, rocky, sharp well draining soil and oftentimes in cooler climates at higher elevations; this hardy perennial can now come out of the shadows into the light. Gardeners now have more location options for this lovely flowering perennial.Native to North America, in particular, the Eastern portion of the United States, Dicentra has naturalized across the country in Zones 3-9. Pink Diamonds can be grown in all but the hottest southmost portions of the states. Deep blue-green fern-like leaves provide the perfect background for the two-toned pink heart shaped flowers. If you enjoyed it in your shade garden, you will welcome it in your full sun garden this spring!Pink Diamonds Bleeding Heart CareTolerating a wide range of soil types and pH, this improved Dicentra hybrid will grow just about anywhere although It will not tolerate heavy clay soils or soils that do not drain well. Like its alpine parents, Pink Diamonds can grow in poor, sandy or rocky soil and give you tons of blooms each spring and fall. Also, like many native wildflowers, Pink Diamonds does not require applications of fertilizer. Unlike its parent plants, it does not tolerate humus rich moist soil. Water only when in extremely dry conditions as it tolerates drought quite well. You will place this new lovely hybrid in the easy to care for category!Deadheading is not required as this perennial will naturally give you two bloom seasons, once in the spring and once in the fall. It produces dozens and dozens of blooms each time. Pruning is generally not needed unless you have dead or diseased leaves. Simply removing them when they occur is all that is needed. The beautiful, frilly leaves will provide a perfect backdrop to other summer blooming perennials until the plant flowers again in the fall. Winter protection is typically not needed as it is hardy to Zone 3 and handles harsh winters well.Pink Diamonds Bleeding Heart SpacingSpace your plants about 16 to 18 inches apart to give room to grow. Pink Diamonds will grow to about 16 inches tall and spread out about 18 inches wide. It is not known to be susceptible to many plant diseases or insect infestations. Some great companion plants include Echinacea, Sedum, Lavandula or Phlox, just to name a few. Plant these improved hybrids in masses in your landscape, as a border plant in your garden bed, or in containers on your full sun patio or porch for a lovely presentation. Be sure to water container plants more than you would in ground plantings.Pink Diamonds Bleeding Heart InformationUSDA Hardiness Zones: 3-9Plant Type: PerennialSunlight Exposure: Partial Sun to Full SunMature Height: 12 - 16 InchesMature Width: 16 - 18 InchesPlant Spacing: 16 - 18 InchesGrowth Habit: MoundedFlower Color(s): PinkSeasonal Interest: Early Fall Late SpringFoliage Type: HerbaceousFoliage Color(s): Blue-GreenAttracts: Bees, HummingbirdsResists: DeerFeatures: Attracts Pollinators, Cut Flowers, Deadheading Not Necessary, Foliage Interest, Low MaintenanceUses: Border Plant Container Cut FlowerPlant Brand: Proven WinnersBotanical/Scientific Name: Dicentra hybrid USPPAF, Can PBRAF | Perennials > Bleeding Heart Proven Winners DICPDQT
