It is a hardy holly with lustrous, dark green, spiny leaves. If pollinated, the clusters of inconspicuous flowers in spring give way to abundant red fruits in fall which lasts through winter. What's more, the Needlepoint Holly's leaves don't have the multiple prongs you'd normally see in hollies. Instead, each leaf has a single point, hence the shrub's name. When Needlepoint Holly is planted close together a dense hedge forms a great foundation, hedge, border, or screen. Others use it a specimen plant to add evergreen color to their landscaping. The Needlepoint Holly is notably low-maintenance - it thrives in moist well-drained soil, and thrives in partial to full sun. This easy-care holly is also resistant to just about every gardening problem - salt, heat, drought, disease, and even hungry deer.
