The New York City Marathon on Sunday broke the record for the world's largest marathon, with 55,646 runners crossing the finish line in Central Park, organisers said.
This year’s race was the largest in the world in 2016, well ahead of the Paris Marathon, which had 41,708 finishers in April. Chicago was third in 2016, with 40,608 finishers.
