SpaceX plans to launch about five uncrewed Starship missions to Mars in two years, CEO Elon Musk said on Sunday in a post on social media platform X.

Unlike Musk, NASA only plans to use Starship to get its astronauts on and off the lunar surface. The crew is expected to launch atop the agency's SLS rocket in an Orion capsule.

The first Starships to Mars will launch in 2 years when the next Earth-Mars transfer window opens. These will be uncrewed to test the reliability of landing intact on Mars.
