Israel says it has launched strikes on the Yemeni ports of Hodeidah and as-Salif in response to the Houthi rebels firing missiles towards Israel, days after the Yemeni group agreed a truce with the United States.

Since then, however, the Houthis have fired three ballistic missiles into Israel, continuing an assault that they began in “solidarity” with Palestinians in Gaza after Hamas’s October 7 2023 cross-border raids into Israel sparked a war that has destabilised the region.

The attack is one of Israel’s heaviest bombardments of the region since a ceasefire ended last year’s war with the Iran-backed Hezbollah
