John King, Georgia’s insurance commissioner, has joined the Republican primary election in hopes of unseating Democratic U.S. Sen. Jon Ossoff next year. Gov. Brian Kemp’s announcement last week that he would not be running for the Senate opened the door to a host of potential candidates.

The race to take on Sen. Jon Ossoff in Georgia grew Monday after state Insurance Commissioner John King entered the Republican primary.

Representative Buddy Carter became the first Republican to enter the primary field to take on Senator Jon Ossoff of Georgia, one of the nation’s most vulnerable Democrats.
