With the TikTok ban bill approved by the US House, Senate, and President Biden, the popular video-sharing app is now at risk of being banned in the US. TikTok now has 270 days to cut its ties with ByteDance or face a ban, but the app doesn't want to back down.

The legislation signed by Biden gives ByteDance nine months to sell TikTok, with a possible three-month extension if a sale is in progress. It would also keep ByteDance from controlling TikTok’s algorithm, which is credited with helping the app rocket in popularity.

TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew said Wednesday that they will not be "going anywhere" after President Joe Biden signed legislation that would ban the video-sharing platform unless the app finds new owners.

The passing of the bill after months of threats is a clear wake-up call for other Chinese apps that see the US as a top destination for their business expansion or have already entered the market there.

Shou Zi Chew says TikTok will fight the law in court, and the platform will be available in the US in the meantime.

TikTok said it will sue to block U.S. legislation, to be signed into law by Biden, banning the app unless parent ByteDance divests its ownership.
